Old Swan Hotel, Swan Road, Harrogate HG1 2SR
The Institute of Medical Illustrator’s 2018 conference will take place in the lovely Spa town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. We hope that this will be a very special conference because we will be celebrating 50 years of IMI. The Old Swan is one of the most famous hotels in Harrogate, with a history going back nearly 200 years. Surrounded by lovely lawns and gardens, it’s just a short walk from the town centre and it combines Victorian splendour with modern practicality. It was to this tranquil haven that the mistress of crime-writing, Agatha Christie, famously disappeared in 1926, resulting in a public furore over the 11 days that she could not be traced.
Guests can now enjoy 136 contemporary-styled bedrooms, the famous glass-ceilinged Wedgwood Restaurant or newly refurbished Swan Lounge and Bar. With several reception rooms, capacity for up to 300, and ample complimentary parking, The Old Swan is the perfect spot for our conference and we hope to take over the whole hotel.
Harrogate is easy to get to: By rail Harrogate is just 3hrs from London in the south and just over 3hrs from Edinburgh in the north. The nearest airport is Leeds/Bradford about half an hour away. It is a 30 minute drive from the A1M. Harrogate is a lovely place to wander – but we hope that delegates won’t have too much time to stray.
As we celebrate IMI’s 50th birthday we will be hosting a three-day conference this year because we hope to pack lots in. There will be plenary sessions on the Thursday with three concurrent streams for photography and video, graphics and ophthalmic imaging. Friday will be given over to trade exhibition and workshops and we hope to repeat some of those on the Saturday followed by another plenary session looking back over 50 years and looking forward to the next.
